      GANTT, RICHARD JUDGE. Richard Judge Gantt, son of Thomas Gantt
      and his first wife Susanna Mackall, was born in 1767 in Prince
      George's County, Maryland. The Gantt family was very prominent in
      colonial Maryland. Richard's father Thomas (1736-1808) served in
      many patriotic and legislative capacities during the
      Revolutionary period. Richard's grandfather Thomas (1710-1785)
      was a distinguished physician and a member of the General
      Assembly and the South River Club. Richard's great grandfather
      Thomas (cl690-1765) was a Justice of the Peace and a Justice of
      the Quorum. Richard Judge Gantt married Sara Allen, daughter of
      Sherwood Allen of Virginia, and they later moved to South
      Carolina (Ref: George Norbury Mackenzie's Colonial Families of
      the United States of America, Vol. I, page 187 (1907), and A
      Biographical Dictionary of the Maryland Legislature, 1635-1789,
      by Edward C. Papenfuse et al, Vol. I, pp. 340-344 (1979).
