      THIS INDENTURE made the Sixteenth:seventeenth day of July 1722 Between ROBERT SMITH of Parish of St. Maries in County of Essex Gent. of one part and HANNAH UPSHAW of Parish of Southfarnham in County aforesaid Widdow Witnesseth that said Robert Smith for sum of ffifty five pounds Sterling to him paid doth grant unto said Hannah Upshaw her heirs forever all that tract of land where PASCHAL GREENHIL lately dwelt lying in the Parish of South Farnham containing 300 acres & upwards, Excepting only what land grant FRANCIS SHACKLEFORD & SARAH his Wife sold out of the same tract of land unto JOHN MOODY by Deed bearing date the Tenth of March 1703 bounded Beginning at a stake between two hickories Corner to Mr. THOMAS TODDs land & running thence North West to a white oak by a Branch of Hoskins Creek thence South crossing it to a great white oak thence South to the land of JOHN BRUSHWOOD to a stake by a red oak by his line North East to the place it began the said land lying between the Main Swamp of Pascataway & Hoskin's Creek but touches nor buts on Neither of the said & is part of 5100 acres of land granted to Mr. HENRY AWBERY by Patent dated the 19th of March one thousand seven hundred & seventy seven (Release) one thousand six hundred & seventy seven (Lease)

      THIS INDENTURE made the Eight day ofJuly in the year of Our Lord MDCCXXIII, Between ROBERT SMITH of the County of ESSEX, Planter, of one part and ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD, Esqr. of the County of Spotsylvania of the other part; Witnesseth that ROBERT SMITH in consideration of the sum of three hundred twenty pounds sterling to him in hand paid by ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD the receipt whereof ROBERT SMITH doth hereby acknowledge, hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD his heirs all those plantations and lands stivate on both sides of the mouth of a large Creek called MASSAPONNAX [als NUSAPONUCK} in the County of Spotsylvania formerly part of (old) RAPPAHANNOCK County computed to be two thousand acres and bounded; Begining at a double Spanish Oak and Hiccory standing on RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER about two hundred poles below MASSAPONNAX CREEK in a tract of six thousand three hundred acres of land formerly granted to ROBERT TALIAFERRO and LAWRENCE SMITH by Patent bearing date the twenty sixth of March one thousand six hundred and sixty six, and runing thence South South West seventy six poles to three Hiccorys upon level land, thence South West and by West five hundred and fourty poles between two red Oaks and a white Oak on the West side of the LONG BRANCH of MASSAPONNAX and by the side of MATTAPONY PATH, thence West twelve degrees North twelve hundred and sixty poles between two red Okes in the head line of the said Pattent, thence with the line of the said Pattent North one hundred and thirty poles crossing the Main Run of MASSAPONNAX to a white Oak and two Hiccorys on the upper side of a Branch of the said Run, thence East and by South one thousand and ninety seven poles to a white Oak, thence leaving the line of the said Pattent and runing through another tract of four thousand nine hundred and seventy two acres of land formerly granted to LAWRENCE SMITH by Pattent bearing date the twenty fifth day of May one thousand six hundred and seventy one, North thirty nine degrees East four hundred and forty poles to two small Oaks by RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER side, thence down the River to the begining place; To have and to hold the plantations and two thousand acres of land within the bounds aforesaid be the same more or less hereby granted unto ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD his heirs and ROBERT SMITH doth grant that he will warrent and for ever defend the land and premises with appurtenances unto ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD his heirs against all persons, In Witness whereof the parties to these presents have interchangeably set their hands and seals the day and year first within written

DOROTHY ROY's Power of Attorney to JOHN WALLER to impower him to acknowledge her Right of Dower of the above said Deed of Land of two thousand acres more or less being first proved by the Oaths of JOHN ROY and FRANCIS STERN the said WALLER did by virtue of that power acknowledge the said DOROTHY ROY's Right of Dower in the said land unto ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD Esqr. which att the motion of Capt.
