  • Notes
    • Archibald was a fifth generation descendent of Alexander MacGregor, Scotch immigrant to Maryland in 1652. He moved to Nelson Co, Kentucky before 1787. When Bullitt Co was formed from part of Nelson Co, Archibald's home was included in the new county. Today it is part of the Berheim Game Reserve, near Clermont.
Archibald died in 1842. He and his wife are buried in the Magruder family cemetary, adjoining the Game Preserve. His will is dated 7 Jul 1832 and was probated in Bullitt Co. Ky, 17 Jul 1842. It names his children: Eleanor, Ezekial, Ursula, Levin, Cassandra, Caroline, and Archibald, Jr.
      Note:
Archibald was a soldier of the American Revolution and a Ky pioneer settler. He was a private in the 4th Co, 29th Battalion, State Militia, MD, subscribing to the patriots oath in 1778.
      Note:
The KY Society of the Sons of the American Revolution officially marked Archibald's grave in the Magruder cemetery adjoining Bernheim Forest in July 1946.
      Note:
"The Magruder ancestors where all identified with the MacGregor clan, one of the oldest in Scotland. The clan Gregor was fierce, quarrlesome and insistant upon their rights of its members and in the defense of thier homes and lands. So aggressive were they that the Macgregors were outlawed by an act of the Scottish Parliament in 1603, and for more than a hundred years they were forbidden to assemble or to use the name MacGregor; thus those who came to America came as Magruders, McGehees, and other names. When Scotland issued the edict outlawing the Clan Gregor, and abolishing the name of Macgregor, the leaders of the Clan hurled their defiance, "while there are leaves in the forest, and foam on the river, MacGregor in spite of them, shall flourish forever!" (Pioneer News) Note: DEATH: Will is probated in Bullitt Co, Jul 17, 1842.
