      Indenture made October 9, 1793; Rezin Beall, Gentleman in consideration of the sum of 2500 pounds current money paid by Thomas Contee, merchant has sold 2,000 acres lying on the Ohio River which he purchased of Adam Stephen, living in Berkeley County, Virginia being part of a large tract of 51,000 acres laid out for George Muse, Adam Stephen, Andrew Lewis, Peter Hogg {officers under George Washington} and others and being also at this time 1/4th part of land undivided supposed to contain 8,000 acres.       {Virginia Lieutenant Governor Robert Dinwiddie's Proclamation of 1754 declared that 200,000 acres would be set aside on the Ohio River for the officers and men who voluntarily served in the expedition to the Monongahela that year. Later, the Royal Proclamation of 1763 instructed American colonial governors to award veterans of the French and Indian War tracts of western land ranging from fifty to 5,000 acres, depending on rank. This land lies on the Kanawha River, a tributary of the Ohio River formed by the juncture of the Gauley River and the New River in present-day West Virginia and George Washington himself owned over 23,000 acres here.       Indenture October 12, 1793; Rezin Beall in consideration of 1250 pounds current money paid by John Beall has sold 1000 acres being one undivided 1/8th part of 8000 acres lying on the Ohio River purchased of Adam Stephen living in Berkeley County, Virginia being had to the articles of agreement entered into by Rezin Beall, Thomas Contee, William Berry and the said John Beall for an equal division for an equal division of the 8000 acres bearing date March 29, 1779, which 8000 acres was part of a larger tract containing 51,000 acres laid out and surveyed for George Muse, Adam Stephen, Andrew Lewis, Peter Hogg and others.
