      Lancaster county Court 11th of June 1690
      - It appeareing to this Court that MARY, the now Wife of MATHEW BROOKES, and late Widdow and Relicte of JOHN WADE, (deced), stands indebted unto JOHN STRETCHLEY in three hundred thirty and two pounds of tobacco and caske D Accot, And after the saide JOHN WADE stands indebted unto JOHN STRETCHLEY in three hundred ninety and one pounds of tobacco and caske p Bill and Accot., And the Inventory of the Estate of the saide WADE hath not according to Law been exhibited to this Court, but the Estate Imbezzled by the Wife of the saide BROOKES, the saide tobacco in the whole amounteing Unto seven hundred twenty and three pounds of tobacco and caske; It is therefore ordered that the same bee forthwth: paide by the saide MATHEW BROOKES wth: costs.

      - MARTHEW BROOKES of this County being apprehended and taken into the Custody of Mr. GEORGE HEALE, High Sheriffe of this County, by vertue of a Writt from the Rt. Honoble. the Lt. Governor, and makeing his Escape and JOHN BEECHING being suspected to bee aideing thereunto, being then at the saide Sheriffes House in not assisting the saide HEALEs Servt. woman when she had holde of him and being neere unto her, the like mischeife that hee forthwth: receive twenty lashes-upon his bare back well laide on and to give security for this good behaviour and that the Sheriffs see this Order executed; the saide BEECHING paying his fees then to bee discharged

      - Whereas it appeares to this Court that MATHEW BROOKES. late of this County, as marriying ELIZABETH (marked out) MARY. the late Relicte of JOHN WADE and (blank) late of this County, (deced), stands indebted unto Mr. DENNIS McCARTY in the sume of two thousand five hundred and seventy pounds of tobacco and caske p twoBills under his Wifes hande and absenting himselfe out of this County, the saide MacCARTEY obtained an Attachmt. against the saide BROOKES. his Estate, in this County, which saide Attachment as appeares by the returne thereof was execyted upon 300 much in the hands of Mr. THOMAS CHATWYN, which noe p:son appeareing to replevyn the saide Attachmt., and it appeareing that there remaines due upon the ballance of the saide Bill, one thousand foure hundred and twenty pounds of tobacco and caske, Judgemt. is therefore granted for the saide tobacco and caske wth: costs in the hands of the saide CHATWYN

      Upon Petition of FRANCES BROOKE, onely Daughter of MATTHEW
      BROOKE, late of this County, deced., that she might be admitted to choose her Guardian, the same being accordingly granted, and she having made choice of JOHN RANKIN, upon motion of JOHN RANKIN Order for administration is granted him on all and singular the Estate of said deced., he giving security for the same according to Law
      - This day JOHN DALTON acknowledged himself indebted unto the Worspll. her Majties Justices of the Peace for this County in the full summe of ten thousand pounds of tobbo. to be paid to the Justices theire Exrs. or Admrs. in case JOHN RANKIN, Guardian by the Court especially admitted to FRANCES BROOKE, Daughter to MATTHEW BROOKE, deced., do not duely administer on all and singular the Estate of MATTHEW BROOKE and render a true and just Account thereof, when thereunto lawfully called
      - Ordered that WILLIAM SMOOTE, GEORGE DEVENPORT, RICHARD WHITE and EDMOND OVERTON or any three of them sometime betweene this and the next Court do meet at the House of JOHN MILLS and do then and there inventory and appraise all and singular the Estate of MATTHEW BROOKE, deced., as shall be presented to theire view and make report of theire proceedings therein to next Court under their hands in writing. Mr. JOSEPH DEEKE or any other Justice of the Peace for this County is requested to administer an Oath to the Appraisers for theire true appraisement of the deced.'s Estate and also to the Admr. and ye sd. JOHN MILLS, for the true delivery thereof
