      Northumberland County Court April 4, 1694
      Whereas THOMAS BYRAM petitioned this court that SARAH BAILES, Executrix of THOMAS BAYLES deceased, died intestate and left an Estate which he [sic] prayed might divided amongst her Children, with one of whom he married and conceived in her right a child's portion to be due to him, and that each might be allotted their separate proportions to be paid them by JOHN BAILES son of the said SARAH who has the said Estate in his possession, Whereupon Mr. RICHARD HAYNIE, Attorney of the said JOHN BAYLES, moved that the matter might be referred to the next Court, when he affirmed the said JOHN would prove the said SARAH's will, a reference is therefore granted the said JOHN and ordered that the said JOHN the next Court cause the said will to be proved.

      THIS INDENTURE made the nineteenth day of May in the Seventh yeare of the Reigne of or: Sovereigne Lady Anne &c., and in ye yeare of or: Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred &Eight, Betweene THOMAS BYRAM of WICCOCOMOCO Parish in Northumberld. County & Colony of Virga:, Planter, of the one part, and JOHN CHAMPION, Gentl., of the same for the sume of Forty seven pounds, Ten shillings Sterl and Four thousand five hundred pounds of tobacco & cask, the said THOMAS BYRAM doth sell unto the sd. JOHN CHAMPION & to his heires and assignes for ever; all that parcell of land in the occupation and possession of him the said THOMAS BYRAM where he now liveth conteyning Sixty acres of Land, being on the South side of GREAT WICCOCOMOCO RIVER in sd. Parish & County, being part of a tract of Three hundred acres of Land formerly granted by Pattent unto THOMAS BYRAM dated the Fourth of October 16( ); and by the said THOMAS BYRAM (who called him selfe THOMAS CLAY als. BYRAM) conveyed and made over unto JOHN CHAMPION, deced., Father to the sd. JOHN CHAMPION., party to this Indenture, by Deed dated the Fifth day of May 167( ), who for further confirmacon of his Right obtayned an Order of the Govenor & Councell for the said Land dated the Twenty second day of September 1680; & upon Survey made by GEORGE COOPER, Gentl., Surveyor, found to contain noe more then One hundred seventy & six acres: which the said JOHN CHAMPION, deced., obteyned a Grant for according to the bounds of the sd. Land menconed in the said Survey from ye Honrble: PHILLIP LUDWELL Esqr., Agent & Attorney of the Right Honorble: ye Proprietors of the Northerne Neck of Virga: dated ye twenty third day of June 1691; out of which sd. Grant ye sd hereby granted or intended to be granted Land by the sd, THOMAS BYRAM, party to these pr.sents; of the said Grantee, JOHN CHAMPION, deced., was purchased by Deed dated the Twenty first day of March 1693/4, as by the same & other the above menconed Evidences to ye sd, Land relateing (relation thereunto had may more fully appeare) the sd. Sixty acres of Land as aforesd. to be comprehended & bounded within the lymitts & bounds of the sd. Grant from ye sd. Proprietors as aforesd., in such manner as if noe Deed had never passed from the sd. CHAMPION, the Grantor of the sd. Land, to the sd. THOMAS BYRAM. party to these pr:sents, with all rights and appurtenances together with all houses stables orchards whatsoever to the sd. Messuage belonging, And all claime of him the sd. THOMAS BYRAM to the same, to the use & behoofe of him the said JOHN CHAMPION his heires & assignes forevermore; In Witness of all the pr:misses the said THOMAS BYRAM hath hereunto sett his hand and seale dated the day & yeare above written
