      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I ROBERT HUGHS of the Parish of Brunswick and County of KING GEORGE Taler and EDWARD HUGHS of the Parish of Dittingin and County of Prince William Witnesseth that the said ROBERT HUGHS for diverse good causes and in consideration of the tender love and affection I bare to my Son EDWARD HUGHS do give and confirm unto the said EDWARD HUGHS and his heirs forever a certain parcel of land containing Eighty acres and bounded beginning at a Winter Branch at the parting of Mag: CHAMPS land & WILLIAM FOSTER land thence down the said Branch to the PINEY BRANCH crossing the PINEY BRANCH a South corse up a Winter Branch to a Corner tree of THOMAS FALKNER his Hundred acres that he bought of MORIS BIVENS thence along the said line to the three hickres that is corner to the said HUGHS and joyning the land of WILLIAM FOSTER thence along the said FOSTERs line to the begining it being part of Two hundred and sixty eight acres of land granted to the said ROBERT HUGHS by PATENT issued out of the PROPRIETORS OFFICE dated the 29th day of January 1727/8 To Have and To Hold the said tract of land unto the said EDWARD HUGHS against the claime of any person and further more especialey for the tender love and regard that I the said ROBERT HUGHS doth bear to my to Sons WILLIAM HUGHS and THOMAS HUGHS do granted and by these presents have given the remainder of the aforesaid PATENT that is not maid over by this present writeing to my Son EDWARD HUGHS to be equally divided between WILLIAM HUGHES and THOMAS HUGHS after my decease but not before and if either of the aforesaid WILLIAM HUGHS or THOMAS HUGHS should die without issue without an heir then the land and profits of the land in lull to my Daughter ANN HUGHS and hur heirs for ever and further more I give my Negro Mingo after my deceas to my Daughter ANN HUGHS and hur heirs for ever and if the said ANN HUGHS should die without heir the said land and improvements in full to return to my Son EDWARD HUGHS and his heirs forever after my Daughter ANN HUGHS if she dyes without heirs the Negro to return to my Son WILLIAM HUGHS and if he dyes without eyers to return to my Son THOMAS HUGHS and his eyers for ever as Witness my hand and Seal this 9th day of August 1746

      THIS INDENTURE made this 19th day of July in the year one thousand seven hundred & Ninety Between JOHN THOMPSON &ELIZABETH his Wife of one part of the County of Culpeper and THOMAS HUGHES of the said County of the other; Witnesseth that JOHN THOMPSON & ELIZABETH his Wife in consideration of the sum of One hundred & Eighty one pounds in hand paid by these presents do bargain & sell unto THOMAS HUGHES his heirs a certain tract of land lying in County aforesaid containing by Survey two hundred and Twenty seven acres & bounded; Begining at a red Oak white Oak & Hickory all dead & lying on the ground, a corner to two other tracts of land which said THOMPSON has lately sold, now possessed by JAMES SLAUGHTER & FREDERICK BUMGARNER & runing thence North seventy five degrees West eighty seven poles to a Pile of Rocks & a marked red Oak a small distance from them, then North fifty five degrees West one hundred and twenty poles to a small Stone within (blank) Fence, North seven degrees East forty four poles to two red Oaks, North thirty three degrees West one hundred & eight poles to a Poplar & Cherry in a Swamp, North fifteen degrees West sixty four poles to two red Oaks, corner to JOHN HYSLE, North eighty two degrees East one hundred & fifty four poles to two red Oaks & a white Oak another corner to said HYSLE, South eighty two poles to a red Oak, South thirty degrees East one hundred & twenty poles to two Stumps within the Field, South twenty five degrees East ninety one poles to the begining; Together with the rents issues & profits of the premises with its appurtenances and all estate right & title of JOHN THOMPSON &ELIZABETH his Wife in the same; To have & to hold the land & premises with Its appurtenances unto THOMAS HUGHES his heirs; And JOHN THOMPSON &ELIZABETH his Wife by these presents do warrant & will forever defend the said land & premises unto THOMAS HUGHES his heirs against the claim of any person; In Witness whereof the said JOHN THOMPSON &ELIZABETH his Wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day & year first above mentioned
