The request for a license to marry Spencer was obtained April 9, 1793 in Frederick county Virginia but the minister's return was recorded in Fauquier county saying the marriage took place on April 15, 1793. In those days a license obtained in one county was good in any other county in the state of Virginia. It was common for people to go to the geographically nearest (or easiest to get to) court house for a license even though they may actually live in another county. This is likely to be the case for Nancy and Spencer as there is no minister return for Frederick county.
