      THIS INDENTURE made the 19th day of May 1708 in the seaventh yeare of the reigne of or: Sovr: Lady Anne, &c. and in ye yeare of or: Lord one thousand seaven hundred and eight; Betweene JOHN BROWN, late Cohabiter in ye County of Lancastr: in Virginia, now a Dweller in ye Province of PENSILVANIA, Planter, of the one part and TOBIAS PURSELL of the County of NORTHUMBERLAND in Virginia; Wittnesseth that the said JOHN BROWN for the sume of One hundred & sixty pounds good and lawfull mony of England to him paid, have granted unto the sd. TOBIAS PURSELL his heires & assignes the remaining part of a tract of land scituated in the Parrish of Christ Church in ye County aforesd. att ye head of ye Eastermost Branch of CURROTOM RIVER the whole tract being a Pattent of Land formerly granted to Mr. WALTER HEARD beareing date ye first of June one thousand six hundred sixty six, ye said Pattent being part of a Pattent formerly granted to Mr. WM; IRONMONGER beareing date ye twelfth of Decemer one thousand six hundred & sixty three, ye whole Pattent granted to Mr. WALTER HEARDE aforesd. being three hundred & fivety acres bounded as in ye Pattent largely doth appeare, part whereof was sold by the sd. WALTER HEARDE a parcell of ye sd. land lying on ye South West side of a Swamp commonly called y the name of YE COOLE SPRING SWAMP, ye quantity unknown sold to JOHN BUNN & now in ye possession of JOHN TINDLEY, and another part thereof was sold to ROGER WILLIAMS and being now in ye tenure of JOHN HEART being in quantity one hundred acres sold by the abovesd. WILLIAM HEARDE, the remaining part of the sd. Pattent intended to be sold by the sd. WM: HEARD made over unto the sd. TOBIAS PURSELL his heires & assignes for ever by ye Deed of Indenture beareing date ye tenth day of Febry: one thousand six hundred & ninety five and recorded in the sd. County ye third of May one thousand six hundred & ninety six as by ye Records of ye sd. Court doth appeare; To have and to hold the sd. tract of land wth: all profitts & appurtenances to the same belonging, the said land by virtue of the sd. Pattent Grant or otherwise wth: all the primisses unto the sd. TOBIAS PURSELL his heires & assignes for ever; subject nevertheless unto the Quit Rents which from time to time shall grow due to be paid and the sd. JOHN BROWN doth agree wth: the sd.       This Indenture made this seventh day of April in the 19th year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the Grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland Queen Defender of the faith &c. and in the year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred and thirteen Between JOHN BROWN of the Parish of XChurch and County of Lancaster Planter of the one part and JOHN STEPTOE of the Parish of Great Wiccocomoco in the County of Westmoreland Gent. of the other. Witnesseth that the said JOHN BROWN for and in consideracon of the sum of fifty pounds good and lawfull money of Great Brittaine to him the said JOHN BROWN in hand paid or secured to be well and truly paid the receipt whereof he the said JOHN BROWN doth acknowledge and confess and thereof and of every part and parcel thereof doth acquit exonerate and discharge the said JOHN STEPTOE his heirs Exors. Admrs. and assigns by these presents bargained and being in the Parish of XChurch and County of Lancaster aforesaid being part of a patent of four hundred and thirty four acres to WILLIAM THACKER by patent dated the ninth day of May 1673 and by him the said WILLIAM THACKER given to ANNE EMBERSON the wife of JOHN EMBERSON as by his Deed dated the fourteenth day of May 1679 and recorded amongst the records of the said County may more at large appear and by them the said JOHN STEPTOE and ANNE his wife sold unto ROGER WILLIAMS late of the County of Lancaster his heirs &c. as by their Deed of Sale dated the tenth day of December 1696 and recorded amongst the records of the said County may appear and by the said ROGER WILLIAMS sold unto the said JOHN BROWN as by his assignment dated March 1700 and recorded amongst the records of the said County may more large appear at which said parcel of land is bounded as follows [vizt.] all on the other side the swamp beginning at a white oake standing on the side of a hill at a place called the white oak branch at the land on the side of the swamp between the swamp and the
      said ROGERS line binding upon JOHN WEBB's line and THOMAS
      STEED and JOHN CORENT and so along WALTER HEARD's line unto the Coole Spring Swamp and also one other parcel of land part of the same pattent given by the said WILLIAM THACKER to ELIZABETH FLOYD the wife of WILLIAM FLOYD as by the said Deed dated October the twenty fifth 1681 and recorded amongst the records of Lancaster County appears which said WILLIAM FLOYD dyeing the said ELIZABETH intermarried with one JOHN WEBB which said COBB also dyeing the
      said ELIZABETH when sole, sold the said land and premises unto JOHN BROWN as by her Deed dated the 11th day of February 1700 may appear which said land is also situate in the parish and County aforesaid at the head of Corratoman River and is bounded [vizt.] Beginning at FESTUNALUS his line to JOHN FLOWER's and running along the right hand of a path that leads from FESTUNALUS's to JOHN FLOWER's line and soe along the said FLOWERS line to the said JOHN STEPTOE's line and soe along the said STEPTOE's line to FESTUNALUS's line and by his line to the path where he first began including all the land on the right hand of the path and between the aforesaid lines be it more or less together with all and singular the houses outhouses tobacco houses buildings orchards woods gardens ways water water courses woods underwoods timbers and incumbrances priviledges commodities heriditaments emoluments and appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise of right appertaining To Have and To hold the hereby bargained and sold land and premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said JOHN STEPTOE his heirs and assigns for ever and he the said JOHN BROWN for himselfe his heirs exors or Admr dloth hereby covenant promise grant and agree to and with the said JOHN STEPTOE his heirs and assigns that he the said JOHN BROWN his heirs and the hereby bargained and the sold land and premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said JOHN STEPTOE his heirs and assigns forever shall and will warrant and by these presents forever defend against the claim or claimes of all persons whatsoever and lastly that the said JOHN BROWN his heirs &c shall and will in due forme of land acknowledge these presents in Lancaster Court in due time.
