      John McKenney's Will
      In the Name of God Amen, I John McKenney, Sr., of the Parish of Cople and County of Westmoreland being weak of body but of perfect mind and memory do therefore make constitute, ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
      I give and bequeath unto my son Duke McKenney the tract of land that I now live on.
      My will and desire is that the remainder part of my estate be equally divided among my three children, Joseph McKenney, Duke McKenney and Barbara Moore.
      My will and desire is that my loving wife Nelly McKenney have all the estate that I have received by marriage of her property and that it be by her excepted as full and complete of all thirds are dower belonging to her by law of my personal or real estate.
      In witness and confirmation of this my last will and testament I set my hand in sixth my seal this 12th day of May 1784. I desire my son Duke McKenney be executors of this my last will and testament.

      At a Court held for Westmoreland County the 31st day of August 1784 this will was proved according to law by the oaths of Walker Yeatman and Elizabeth Miller the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded, on motion of Duke McKenney the executors therein named who made oath thereto according to law and together with Thomas Cavender and Gerard Robinson Hutt his securities entered into and acknowledged by with condition of the law directs, certificate is granted him for obtaining probate thereof in due form.

      THE NAME OF GOD Amen this 3d, day of November 1729; We the within WILLIAM and JANE MEKENNE of NOMINY of Copeley Parrish in the County of Westmoreland being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, considering the uncertainty of mortality, doe here make and ordaine our Last Will and Testement in manner and form as followeth first revokeing and making void all former Wills and Testements whatsoever;
      First, We give and bequeath our Souls into the hands of God that gave it and our bodys to the Earth to be decently buried according to the discretion of our Executors hereafter named.
      Item. We give and bequeath our Lands and plantation to be equally devided between our three Sons, GERRARD, JOHN and DANIEL and if either of them should decease without heir, our Will is that it should fall to the other two and if any two die without heir then all to fall to one; which land and plantation we give and bequeath to them and their heirs for ever lawfully begotten of theire bodges only we give free priveledge for any of them or either of them to sell their part or persell of land to each other as they shall think fits;
      Item. I give and bequeath unto my Son, WILLIAM MEKENNY one Heffer of three years old and one Shilling Sterl, in full of our Estate;
      Item. I give unto my Grand Child, KENNE WILLIAMS, one Heffer of three years old after our decease;
      Item. Wee give and bequeath to our three Daughters, DEBORAH MARMEDUKE, JANE WILLIAMS and MARY WILLIAMS one Shilling Sterling apeice which Shilling to be paid by our Execotors to every one of them in full of our Estate.
      Item. We doe here make constitute and appoint our two beloved Sons, GERRARD and JOHN MAKENNE, Executors of this our Last Will and Testement; In Witness whereof we have both set our hands and seales the day and year above written

      IN THE NAME OF GOD, Amen, September the 16th day in the year of our Lord 1740; 1 JOHN DODD of Parish of Washington in Westmoreland County being in health of body and of good and perfect sence and memory, thanks be to God, do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as followeth;
      Imprimis. First, I bequeath my Soul and Spirit into the hands of Almighty God by whom of his mercy through the death and merrits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I sett the only hope of my salvation, my body I commit to the Earth to be buried in a Chritian manner;
      Item. I do give and bequeath unto my Son, JOSEPH DODD, all that Plantation in KING GEORGE County which the said JOSEPH now liveth upon to him the said JOSEPH DODD and his heirs forever; with all the land thereto belonging;
      Item, I do give and bequeath unto my Son, NATHANIEL DODD, all that Plantation and parcel of land I now live on lying in Westmoreland County with the appurtenances and every part and parcel thereof to him the said NATHANIEL DODD, and his heirs forever,
      Item. I do give and bequeath unto my Son, BENJAMIN DODD, one feather bed, rugg, blankets and one pair of fine sheets, one boulster and one pillow and curtains and vallens, to the said Bed, I do also give to my said Son, BENJAMIN, three pewter dishes and three pewter plates and one pewter bacon and one small iron poll;
      Item. I do give and bequeath unto my Daughter, MARY McKENNEY, all my whole right title and interest of a Servant Maid which now liveth with me and was bought by me and JOHN McKENNEY, Husband to my said Daughter, at equal charge which said Servant womans name is ELIZABETH WASHINGTON.
      Item I do give and bequeath unto my Son in Law Six shillings current money, WILLIAM GEARING by name;
      Item. My will and desire is that all and every part of my personal Estate goods chattles and appurtenances whatsoever thereto belonging after the aforesaid legacies are delivered be equally divided amongst my Five Children hereafter named, (that is to say) my Eldest Son, JOHN DODD, my aforesaid Son, JOSEPH DODD, and my said Son, BENJAMIN DODD, and my said Daughter, MARY McKENNEY and my youngest Daughter, ELIZABETH (? UREDNE) each and every one of the said five to have and equal part as aforesaid of my said personal Estate and every part and parcel thereof, And I do make constitute and appoint my Eldest Son, JOHN DODD, my Exor, of this my said Will revoking and disannulling all former Wills by me heretofore made ratifying and declaring this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament, And in confirmation thereof have hereunto set my hand and seal the day month and year above written

      Garner & Wife to McKenny Indenture & Privy Examination
      This indenture made the 27th day of October 1766 between Samuel Garner and Isabel Garner his wife of the parish of Overwharton and county of Stafford, planter of the one part and John McKenney of the parish of Cople and county of Westmoreland, planter of the other part. Witnesseth that Samuel Garner and Isabel Garner his wife in consideration of 5 pounds current money of Virginia paid by Isaac Hamrick on behalf of John McKenney has sold to the said John McKenney 1/3rd part of a tract lying in Nominy Forrest in the parish of Cople and county of Westmoreland containing by estimation 50 acres and bounded by the lands of James Gregory, the heirs of Thomas Asbury, deceased and the land whereon Mary Connelly now lives which said 17 acres Samuel Garner holds in the right of his wife Isabel Garner who claims the same for her right of dower as widow and relict of George [xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] {Haughlcom} of all the said 50 acres of land and which said [xxxxxxxxxx] more or less goes to his daughter [xxxxxxxxxxx] of the said Isaac Hamrick after the decease of the said Isabel Garner wife of Samuel Garner. In witness whereof the first parties to these presents have interchangeably set their hands and seals the day and year first above written

      To Richard Lee, John Turberville, John Augustine Washington and Thomas Chilton of the county of Westmoreland, Gent. Whereas Samuel Garner and Elizabeth [sic Isabel] Garner by their indenture of bargain and sale bearing date the 27th day of October 1766 have sold and conveyed unto McKenney the fee simple estate of 17 acres of land lying in the parish of Cople in the county of Westmoreland being 1/3rd part of a tract containing by estimation 50 acres and whereas Isabel Garner cannot conveniently travel to our court to make acknowledgement. Therefore, we do give unto your or any two of you power to receive the acknowledgement which the said Isabel Garner is willing to make. Witness James Davenport, clerk the 31st day of October in the 7th year of our reign.

By virture of the within writ to us directed, we did personally go to Isabel Garner the wife of Samuel Garner and she acknowledged the indenture hereunto annexed to be her act and deed and that she did the same freely and voluntarily without the persuations or threats from her husband and was willing that the same should be recorded in the county court of Westmoreland all which we certify in his said court under our hands and seals this 31st day of 1766.
      At a court held for Westmoreland County the 24th day of February 1767 this indenture and receipt thereon endorsed were proved by the oaths of Joseph Lane, Reuben Jordan and Stuart Redman witnesses thereto and together with the commission annexed for taking the acknowledgement and privy examination of Isabel Garner the wife of Samuel Garner and the certificate of the execution thereof ordered to be recorded.       Hamrick & Wife to McKenney Indenture
      This indenture made this 21st day of July 1769 between Isaac Hamrick and Hannah Hamrick his wife of the Parish of Dettingen and County of Prince William, planter of the one part and John McKenney of the County of Westmoreland and Parish of Cople of the other part. Witnesseth that Isaac Hamrick and Hannah Hamrick his wife in consideration of 20 pounds current money and sold to John McKenney have sold a tract of land containing 50 acres lying in the parish of Cople and County of Westmorland being part of a tract of land whereon Samuel Garner formerly lived and was left to the said Hannah Hamrick by the last will and testament of her deceased father George Halcom [Haughlcom], which said land adjoins the land of Henry Asbury, deceased. In witness whereof the said Isaac Hamrick and Hannah Hamrick his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.

Whereas Isaac Hamrick and Hannah Hamrick his wife by their indenture of bargain and sale bearing date the 27th day of July have sold and conveyed unto John McKenney the fee simple estate 50 acres of land lying in the parish of Cople and County of Westmoreland, and whereas the said Hannah Hamrick cannot conveniently travel to her court of our said County to make acknowledgment. Therefore, we do give unto you or any two of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Hannah shall be willing to make. Witness James Davenport, clerk of our said court the 13th day of April 1769.
      By virtue of the above writ two is directed we did personally go to the said Hannah Hamrick the wife of the above named Isaac Hamrick and before us she did acknowledge the indenture hereunder annexed to be her act and deed and that she did the same freely and voluntarily without the persuasions or threats of her husband and was willing that the same should be recorded in the County Court of Westmoreland. All which we certify under our hands and seals this 29th day of July 1769
