      1735-1743 Orange County, Virginia Will Book 1: [John Frederick Dorman]:
      Pages 72-74. Will of James Cox of St. Mark's Parish in the County of Orange being very sick and weak, dated 16 Dec. 1738.
      To my youngest son John Cox all that tract of land containing two hundred acres with the plantation and all improvements whereon I now dwell with twenty five acres I purchased of Edward Haley joyning to the same tract on this side of a branch that is to say next to where I now live which is not yet acknowledged to me.
      Two hundred acres of land to my son Frances Cox adjoyning to the line of Andrew Harrison and Capt. Gwin, it being part of a tract of five hundred and eighty acres not yet patent.
      To my son James Cox two hundred acres joyning to my son Frances.
      To my daughter Naomi Cox one hundred and eighty acres joyning to my son James being the remainder part of the same tract.
      To my eldest son William Cox one hundred and fifty acres of land lying in Hanover County on the line of the county on both sides of the branches of Lynches River.
      One hundred and fifty acres of land to my son James Cox being part of the same tract with my son William.
      To Henry Isbell three hundred acres of land which the said Henry Isbell now lives on joyning to the line of Henry Reid and Captn. Gwin and Richard Sharps [?].
      Unto John Evans one hundred and twenty acres of land whereon the said Evans now dwells being part of the same tract of enry Isbells.
      Unto Joseph Holder one hundred and ten acres of land being the remainder part of that tract of Henry Isbell and John Evans and joyning to Samuel Hensley.
      Unto my brother William Cox four hundred acres of land which the said William Cox now lives on provided that he pays unto my estate nine pounds currt. money within one month and that he likewise pay the quitrents of the said land when it shall be demanded and if he shall pay the ballance of the money due for the said land by the first, days of January one thousand seven hundred and thirty nine, but if my brother fail to pay the several sums of money mentioned, my exrs. to sell the said land my brother Wm. Cox now lives on by way of out cry.
      I allow my heirs and executors to sell two lotts of land above the Little Mountain on the branches of Swift Run belonging to me, four hundred acres each tract, to pay part of my debts.
      My desire is to leave my Negro man Dombo and all my other moveable estate to my beloved wife Elizabeth so long as she shall remain a widow and if my wife shall decease before marriage I ordain it to be equally divided amongst all my children.
      If either my son James or Frances or my daughter Naomi shall die before they shall come to lawful age the lower lott of the five hundred and eighty acres of land I gave to them to be sold.
      William Waller, Gent., of Spotsylvania County and my son William Cox and Elizabeth my wife my only and sole executors.
