William Pearson Alexander was a widower when he married Hannah Lee Washington. This was confirmed last night when I was reading from the Jefferson County Historical Society Magazine, December 31, 2003 in which it said Hannah "was at a visit at Mt. Vernon in 1835 when she proceeded to elope with a man her family didn’t want her to marry." His name was given as William Pearson Alexander of King George Co., VA. The article goes on to say they had nine children before divorcing. Another source says he died 1862 in Alexandria, VA but I found nothing to support that. The last I found of him was in 1850. He and his family were living next door to Hannah’s father.
1850, Jefferson Co., VA:
William T Alexander 49, farmer [should be William P.]
Hannah D Alexander 39
Thomas B Alexander 12
William Alexander 9
Jane Alexander 7
Herbert Alexander 4
Richard Alexander 1
