the 1720 Deposition made by Abraham LeMaistre / Lemaster in Maryland opens up a discussion about church records for Abraham & his father, John (French version: Jean) This deposition states his parents were John (Jean) & Sara LeMaistre. That he was born on the old Jersey Isle, St Maries territory or county.

At his birth, England was in control of the Jersey Isles in the Channel Islands. All Catholic churches had been transformed into Church of England. Even though England governed, the Parish records were in French. I believe I have found a few Parish records for this LeMaistre family.
      :
      1) Abraham LeMaistre's 1720 Deposition:

      At the request of John Lemaster of Charles County, planter the two following depositions were recorded this ninth day of March Anno Dom 1720, Vizt;
John How? aged twenty one or thereabouts deposeth on the holy evangelist of almighty God that he heard Justinian Tennison say that he was born in Weymouth in the Kingdom of England and further saith not
Sworn the 14 June1720 before us
      John Fendall
      Robert Hanson

Abraham Lemaister son of John and Sarah Lemasiter aged eighty one years or thereabouts deposeth on the holy evangelist of almighty God that he was born in the Old Jersey in the parish of St. Maries and further this deponent saith not.
sworn this twenty seventh day of June anno dom 1720
      John Fendall
      Walter Story

      2) Jean LeMaistre's Enterment / Burial: St Ouen was the next door county on the Jersey Isles.
It shows the date of his death / burial March 1666
States his father was Silvestre / Sylvester Le Maistre.
Ancestry.com has the Church records in the Card File.

      3) Record shared by Karen LeMaistre whose Grandfather emigrated from the Jersey Isles to Canada to the US about 1920. Changed surname to Masters.
Shows the children of Silvestre LeMaistre and who they married. Silvester LeMaistre would have been a grandfather of Abraham LeMaistre

      Abraham Lemaster
Witnesses: Richard Edlin, James D. Ludwell, Thomas Reibird.

The will was proved Dec. 11, 1722 in Charles County, Md.

Bequests: Susanah Houldcroft, brothers Michael Houldcroft & Valentine Houldcroft, wife Susanah Houldcroft, brother Michael Houldcroft estate in England.
      Executrix: wife Susanah Houldcroft.

Source: Maryland Prerogative Court, Testamentary Proceedings, Liber 1F, Page 17-20.
Comment: This record shows that George Houldcroft's will was made 3 years later than the version of Houldcroft's will that appears at Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. 1, Page 32. Skordas shows George and Susanna Holdcraft transported 1665, citing Maryland Land Office, Patent Records, Liber 9, Page 105. If the 1665 date is correct, it delays Abraham's first appearance in Maryland for 3 years, that is, from 1662 to 1665. Of course, Abraham was surely in Maryland for at least some period of time before he witnessed Houldcroft's will. Abraham had completed his time of service by Nov. 1668.

Dec. 8, 1665 - Susannah Holdcroft was granted administration on the estate of George Houldcroft. Appraisers: John Smyth, James Edmunds. Robert Slye to administer oath. Security: Robert Slye.

Comment: This record shows that Abraham Lemaster and John Smith were probably also residents of St. Clement's Hundred.
