Will of Elizabeth Thornton
In the Name of God Amen, this Second day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred Forty eight.
I Elizabeth Thornton of the County of King George being sick in body but of good and perfect memory (thanks be to Almighty God) do make constitute ordain and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following revoking and annuling by these presents all and every Testament & Testaments, Will or Wills heretofore by me made or declared either by word or writing and this is to be taken only for my Last Will & Testament and none other. And first repenting earnestly for my former sins and humbly desireing forgiveness for the same after I give and commit my soul to God Almighty, I give and dispose of my temporal estate as follows, that is to say after all my debts are duely satisfied and paid by Francis Thornton my son and by John Fitzhugh my son in law both whom I leave and appoint to be my Executor's of this my last Will and Testament.
Imprimis: I give and bequeath to my daughter Alce Fitzhugh my two Negroes Caesar & Bess and what money I have at my death as also all my wearing cloaths either made up or unmade and my grey horse called Baldwin or Blewbird.
Item: I give and bequeath to my grandson William Thornton my silver watch and my desk.
Item: I give and bequeath to my grandson Francis Thornton all my silver tea spoons and my gunn.
Item: My will is that my son Francis Thornton and my daughters Elizabeth Thornton and Alse Fitzhugh shall each have a Mourning Ring out of my estate.
Item: My will is also that all the remainder of my estate (which I have not already given away) may be divided equally between my son Francis Thornton and my daughter Alse Fitzhugh, as witness my hand and seale. The Last Will and Testament of Elizabeth Thornton, Deceased, was presented into Court by Francis Thornton and John Fitzhugh, her Executors who made oath thereto and the same was proved by the oaths of JOHN BROWN and GEORGE RIDING and admitted to record. Then North bounding on the land formerly leased to CHRISTOPHER THRAIKILL to land formerly leased to the sd John Payton the Elder thence East to the Beginning. The ad land to my son Thomas and his heirs. I give to my son Thomas one moiety of my Brent Town land now in his possession according to a Division lately made by his Brother HENRY to him my son Thomas and heirs ..

Item I give to my Son WILLIAM FITZHUGH two tracts of land which I purchased from JOHN WARNER Surveyor now lying in County of Fairfax & Loudoun. To William and his his heirs
Item I give to my son Henry in Lieu & in consideration of the 200 acres of land part of Wilkinson's Patent devised to my said son Thomas & whereof my said son Henry is Tennant in Tail all the Tract of land near Accokick Run which I bought of RICHARD FOOTE &, others also 100 acres of land which I bought of BENJAMIN COLECLOUGH likewise all my lands within Bounds of the Church Quarter Patent I had partly be a purchase from ROBERT DADE & partly by a Surplis Patent I give all the sd Tract to my son Henry & Heirs but should my son Henry or his Heirs or any claiming under him or them lay claim to the 500 acres part of Wilkinson's Patent devised to my son Thomas and heirs or molest my son Thomas .. in that case I give all lands devised to my son Henry as aforsd to my son Thomas and heirs.
Item I give to my Daughter SUSANNA 400 pounds current money of Virginia and five Slaves (named) I also give my said Daughter a good bed and suitable furniture.

Item I give my stock of horses, cattle hogs & sheep to my son Henry Fitzhugh & I bequeath all the remainder of my Estate after my debts & legacies are paid to my four sons Henry, Thomas, John & William except the slaves Dic: & his Wife Diana which I give to my son Henry the residue to be equally divided amongst them my said sons. I appoint my son Henry confideing in his Honour & Integrity my sole Executor of this my last will & Testament .. witness my hand .. 18th June 1757.

Indenture made 6th/7th August 1760 between FRANCIS THORNTON and ELIZABETH his wife of parish Brunswick in King George County of one part and JOHN FITZHUGH of parish Overwharton in county Stafford of other .. by deeds of lease and release .. for sum Five hundred pounds currt. money of Virginia .. sold 300 acres lying in parish Brunswick and county King George .. beginning near WILLIAM BERRYS mill it being the Eastermost corner tree of the tract of land .. which said tract of land was purchased by ROWLAND THORNTON (Father of aforesaid Francis Thornton) of JOHN CHAMPE and JOHN AMBROSE Gent., Churchwardens of parish Brunswick by deed bearing date 23d & 24th days May 1733 .. which said 300 acres was bequeathed to Francis Thornton by Rowland Thornton as also 130 acres of land in two tracts joining the 300 acres purchased by Francis Thornton of THOMAS WILLIAMS by deed bearing date 2d & 3d days April 1739 ..

Whereas Francis Thornton Gent. and Elizabeth his wife by their deeds of lease and release sold John Fitzhugh Gent. of county Stafford 430 acres of land in King George County and whereas Elizabeth Thornton cannot conveniently travel to our County Court of King George .. receive her acknowledgment .. 29th March in 33d year of our Reign.

Know all men .. I JOHN FITZHUGH of Stafford County am bound unto FRANCIS THORNTON Gent. of county King George in penal sum One thousand pounds currt. money .. 7th August 1760. Condition .. if John Fitzhugh save harmless the said Francis Thornton and his heirs then above obligation to be void

Indenture made 13th April 1760 between JOHN GREEN of county Stafford and FRANCIS THORNTON of county King George .. Whereas GEORGE GREEN late of county Richmond was in his life time possessed of a certain parcel of land lying in parish of Hanover and county King George containing 885 acres or thereabouts .. made his last will and testament in writing bearing date 9th June 1716 .. did devise the said tract of land to his sons JOHN GREEN (party hereto his Eldest son & heir at law), THOMAS, GEORGE, JOSEPH, WILLIAM, SAMUEL, DANIEL and ISAAC and to his Daughters ELIZABETH & GRACE GREEN .. equally divided among them .. after death of Testator the said tract of land was equally divided & allotted to the several children .. upon which allotment 69 acres .. and bounded Southerly by the Dividend of land allotted to Elizabeth and since purchased by FRANCIS THORNTON, Easterly by the Dividend allotted to DANIEL GREEN also purchased by Francis Thornton, Northerly by dividend allotted to SAMUEL GREEN and Wisterly by tract of land belonging to THOMAS WILLKERSON was allotted to GREES GREEN as her equal dividend .. and Whereas said Grees being possessed as tenant departed this life intestate and without issue of her body .. said parcel of land reverted and came to John Green party hereto as Eldest Son and heir at law .. Now This Indenture Witnesseth that John Green for sum Twenty four pounds currt. money sold Francis Thornton the above recited tract of land containing 69 acres ..
