The deposition of John Essex aged 36 years or there
abouts sworn and examined saith, I heard John Gresham
had changed a cow with his daughter and I was there at the
same time when he took of the hide of the cow that he
changed with his daughter and Gresham replied that he
wished he had knocked her in the head then he had saved a
barrell of com and now I have gotten a hide for a cow, and
further saith not,

John Essex his deposition.
John Essex aged 36 years or there abouts sworn and
examined saith, that Justinian Tennes called this depondent
to the bedside where John Gresham lay at this depondents
house and John Gresham desired this depondent to go and
mark a calffor the said John Greshams daughter Martha of
the cow belonging to Katherane the wife of the said
Justinian Tennes which calf was of the last years fall and
further this depondent saith not
the mark of John Essex.

Northumberland County Court 13th of April 1657
- Whereas it was ordered at a Cort: held the 14th of February 1655 that JNO: ESSEX should have the Tuition of JUSTINIAN, the Sonne of JOHN GRESHAM, deced & whereas it doth appeare unto this Cort: from undr: the hand of the said ESSEX that hee renounced the sd, ordr: & is content that the said JUSTINIAN GRESHAM shall be in the keeping & undr: the Tuition of JUSTIAN TENNIS, whoe marryed wth: ye Sister of the sd. JUST: GRESHAM, if the Cart: soe pleased to ordr: the same. Upon the Peticon of the sd. JUSTINIAN TENNIS. It is ordered that the sd. JUSTINIAN GRESHAM shall be & remaine undr: the Tutition keeping and Guardianship of the sd. TENNIS together with all the Estate belonging unto him. Provided the sd. TENNIS doe or cause the sd, Orphant to be brought up Instructed, Educated & kept according to his quality, & to give a yearely accompt of the sd, Orphants Estate, as alsoe security for the same
