PRATHER, WILLIAM. "William Prather removed from Rockville,
Maryland, to North Carolina, in 1780 when 14 years old. Settled
with his father [Basil] near Guilford Courthouse, married his
first wife Ary Gaither in North Carolina in 1784 who died 1795,
leaving one child [Nancy Prather] who died in Clark County,
Indiana, January 16, 1832. He then taught school for several
years in Virginia. Married my mother, Lettice Mccarroll, in
Virginia, 1796. Returned to North Carolina where my two oldest
sisters were born. In 1799 he removed to Clark's Grant, Indiana
Territory, and settled on the South Fork of the Muscakatuck
Creek, where he lived until his death on the 12th day of April,
1853. was the father of thirteen children." (Ref: HWN I-77
footnote, in which the author [Harry Wright Newman] cites
information given to him in the 1920's in a letter that was
written many years earlier by William B. Prather (1821-1851). Mr.
Newman added that "Ary Gaither (born December 14, 1770), daughter
of John Gaither and Anne Jacob, fits into the picture of this
family history. Her sister, Rachel Gaither (October 12, 1768 -
May 13, 1858) married Thomas Prather (July 23, 1769 - March 25,
1854). They are buried in New Chapel Methodist Churchyard in
Jeffersonville, Indiana." (Ref: HWN I-77).
