Bequeaths to:
1. Mary Sprigg Gantt --wife
-testators executors to set apart that of the estate they think necessary for the sue and convenience of wife and children and the remainder of the estate to he sold as soon as possible for the purpose of paying testator's debts
-to have the choice of such of the testators books as she may select
out of his library, to have the testator's carriage, chair and horse and also to have the cabinet and one of the bureaus,
-to have Negroes "Betty" and 'Susan"
-named guardian to testator's children and should she die before they come of age, then testator's daughter-in-law Ann to be guarclians to testator's daughter Lucy
2, Ann Hermance (?) --daughter-in-law
at the death of testator's wife to have that property the exeeutors have set aside for the use of the testator's children shall any sill be infants -to have the testator's other bureau and her choice of a bed and after her mothers death to have the testator's best mahogany bedstead
3. Fielder Gantt --uncle
-named executor of the will along with testator's wife
-whereas the testator purchased a redemption on a mortgage given by the testator's father to John Duvall for certain Negroes and there has been a --- in chancery upon the said mortgage and the testator has given his bond to his father's executors for the balance due for the purchase of the equity of redemption --should the testator die before the business is settled and the mortgage debt satisfied for which debt the testator has always refused to make himself personally responsible, it is his desire that his executors take the earliest means of settling the mortgage and paying the money the testator owes for redemption by a sale of the Negroes. nothing but the testators indisposition from closing this business and the testator is anxious that his father's debts be paid.
-to take out as soon as possible letters testementary for the purpose of settling the testators debts
-whereas the testator has heretofore purchased 3 lots in a square being an addition to George Town from Anthony Holman i(?) but a conveyance has not been as yet made to the testator, he requests that his executors get a conveyance with the help of the testator's friends James S. --- and Francis Key and once the conveyance is made die lots to be for the testator's children as tenants in common
-testator requests that his land lying in Prince George's County as soon as possible, the land lying opposite Lower Marlboro and being that part of his plantation lving to the west of the main road and extending from the boundary on the said road between the testators land and that of Mathew (?) Waring near the large chestnut and running with the main mad to the top of the hill as one descends to Taylor's Branch near the bridge and from the top of the said hill a straight line west to intersect a branch of Taylor's Branch and with it to the bounder at the beech tree and thence. . .around the testator's land to the said chestnut be sold and the money from the sale be applied as part of the personal estate but before they sel l the land they shall expressly reserve the house where James Cooksey, the testator's tenant, lives and the little houses around it which the testator gives to his old friend on the condition that he shaft move them to the opposite side of the road and he is to have 4 acres of land during his life beginning at the boundary by the chestnut and running with the road to 2 apple trees on the west side of the road and thence eastward as far as a line: drawn south to the testator's outlines--to take in 4 acres and the said "Charg--s" to have the 4 acres for his natural life in return for his fidelity to the testator's father and to have firewood out of the testator's woods to the eastward of his house for 1 fire during his natural life and to have pasturage for 1 cow and horse and liberty to raise 2 hogs
-the remainder of the testator's lands lying on the Patuxent to he rented out and the moneys from the rent for testator's widow during her natural life and for the support and education of the testator's children at the death or testator's wife and before the testator's daughter Lucy comes of age. one third of the to he paid to testator's daughter-in-law Ann Hermance to support Lucy should the lands before mentioned to be sold not be sufficient for the payment of testator's debts, then executors to sell as much of the land in Patuxent lying to the westward of the road From the landstone to the branch
-as soon as it is convenient after testator's death, executors to sell that land which the testator purchased from the trustee for the selling of the real estate of Thomas Clarke, deceased and which lands were conveyed to the testator by James S. Morsel and the money from the sale to be applied to the payment of a debt the testator has to the Farmer's Bank of Maryland and any surplus to be applied to the personal estate
-whereas the testator was willed by his father Negroes for a certain term, then at the end of that term, the boys are to be apprenticed to Thomas Corcoran (?) of George Town and the daughters are bequeathed to his father's administrators Charles and Thomas Gantt until they are free
4, John Southgate
-whereas the testator had a legal title to a lot in the City of Washington conveyed to him by Samuel Davidson and lying on a square north of the President's house and the lot the testator sold to John Southgate but whereas theere was a mistake made in the wording of the deed of- conveyance the testator bequeaths to Southgate the said lot and also to have any other lots in Washington which the testator purchased from Samuel Davidson, of George Town not already heretolbre conveyed to Southgate
5. Nicholas Lingan of George Town
-whereas the testator has so]d to Lingan 2 lots which he purchased from Thomas Beall, of George and whereas he has paid the testator only part of the purchase money, the testator authorizes his executors to convey the said lots to him on the payment of the rest of the purchase price
6. William Turner Gantt --son
Benjamin Edward Gantt -son
-should testator's widow die before children come of age. then John Gantt, the testator's cousin and son of uncle John Gantt and also testator's uncle Fielder Gantt named as guardians to his sons
-testator desires that his sons be put to a trade or profession and to have a good education
