      It is also assumed that Broderick was at least 21 years old when the following deed was executed:

      1 Apr 1785, Indenture. At Court May 17, 1785, Broderick Mason and
      John Giddens and Mary Giddens sell land to Harmon Utterback which is located
      on the Little Fork of the Rappahannock River lying on Branches of Indian Run.

      Broderick and brothers, James and Francis, came to Spartanburg, SC from Culpeper Co VA. He came first in the year 1790 . He married ca 1787. According to census, he appeared to be married when he came to SC. His homeplace was probably loc ated on the road between Price's Ford and Woodruff, SC.

      This Indenture made 16th November 1772 Between WILLIAM HAMMETT and
      CATHERINE his Wife of County of Culpeper and JAMES MASON of same Witnesseth
      that William Hammett & Katherine his Wife for sum of Fifty pounds current
      money of Virginia have granted unto said James Mason a parcel of land in the Little
      Fork of Rapahanock River in County aforesaid lying on the branches of Indian Run
      and bounded Beginning &two hickories corner to THOMAS UNDERWOOD running
      thence with his line North to a box oak corner to HENRY UTIERBACK thence with his
      line North to the Beginning . . . .

      THIS INDENTURE made this 10th day of April One thousand seven hundred & Eighty five Between BRODERICK MASON & JOHN GIDDINGS & MARY GIDDINGS his Wife of County of Culpeper & Commonwealth of Virginia of one part and HARMAN UTTERBACK of County & Commonwealth aforesaid of other part Witnesseth that BRODERICK MASON, JOHN GIDDINGS & MARY his Wife for sum of Forty five pounds current money of Virginia to them paid by these presents do bargain & sell unto HARMAN UTTERBACK his heirs a certain parcel of land in the Little Fork of RAPPAHANNOCK RIVER in County aforesaid lying on the Branches of the INDIAN RUN & bounded Be-gining at two Hickorys Corner to JAMES ARNOLD. formerly UNDERWOODs, runing thence with his line No. 43 E. 86 poles to a box Oak Corner to HENRY UTTERBACK, thence with his line N. 33 West 191 poles to two white Oaks, thence S. 43 West 86 pole to a white Oak Sprout & two Pines, thence So. 33 E. 191 poles to the begining containing One hundred acres be the same more or less And all houses & Improvements whatsoever To have and to hold the said land unto HARMAN UTTERBACK his heirs free from all Incum-brances In Witness whereof BRODERICK MASON, JOHN GIDDINGS & MARY his Wife have hereunto set their hands & Seals this day & year first written
