Re: DAR library Swarmsteds file containing a statement of the age of Christian Swarmsted. His age on June 17, 1706 is listed as being ca (about) 44. This would mean that he was born around 1662, was about 35 when he married Judith Squibb Body in 1697, and was about 52 when he apparently died in 1714. The second bit of information is a possible first name for the wife of Nicholas Swarmsted. His next of kin is listed as Hutchings Swarmsted. Although that sounds like a somewhat strange name for a woman, it’s not one of the six children named in his will so I’m guessing that it must be his wife. If she was his wife though, all we know is that she was his wife when he died in 1768. We don’t know if she was the mother of his children. She may have been their mother but she could also be someone that he married after the wife who was the mother of his children had died. I guess we could feel more confident of her status if we could find a record of a marriage between Nicholas and Hutchings.
