Attwell to Pickett Indenture
This indenture made the 27th day of May 1792 between Francis Atwell of the one part and Martin Pickett of the other part. Witnesseth that Francis Atwell in consideration of 256 pounds current money in hand has sold to Martin Pickett a tract of land in the County of Westmoreland containing by estimation 246 acres now in the occupation and tenure of Richard Henry Lee, Esq. lying on Lower Machodoc Creek on or near Potomac River and joining the lands of Richard Lee, Esq. and [blank] Washington, Esq., and if upon an actual survey of the said lands to be conveyed it shall appear that there are more than 246 acres then the said Martin Pickett shall pay to Francis Atwell the sum of 20 shillings per acre for all the overplus and of less than 246 acres the said Francis Atwell shall pay to the said Martin Pickett the rate of 20 shillings for every acre shall be deficient. In witness whereof the said Francis Atwell hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written.

At a court of quarterly sessions held for Westmoreland County the 31st day of July 1792 this indenture of bargain and sale and receipt thereon endorsed were proved by the oaths of Thomas Chilton, Thomas Atwell and Charles Marshall three of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
