Henry Cooksey MATTHEWS most likely died in Georgetown, Washington Co. DC - where he had been living since before 1820. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery as are other members of the MATTHEWS family.

Alexander Matthews, Will, April 15, 1842; October 11, 1842
I, Alexander Matthews of CC, being in bad health of body, but of sound disposing mind memory and understanding;
To brother William Matthews, my watch, chain and seal.
To sister Catharine Hebb, my clock.
To sister Elizabeth B. Matthews, the house and lot whereon Robert W. Hanson now resides together with all the land lying on the west side of an old road, that use to run from Hill Top to Taylors Landing on Nanjemoy Creek during her natural life, with the previledge of getting sufficient firewood and rail timber of any of my adjacent lands to be pointed out by my brother Henry C. Matthews.
To my brother Elias P. Matthews, 100 dollars annually to be paid by my brother Henry C. Matthews.
To negro Frederick, absolute freedom; as by the laws of Maryland he cannot remain in the state without a licence from the Orphans Court, I request my executor to procure such license.
Item: I have heretofore manumitted my negro woman Henny which act I do hereby confirm
To my three negro children, Martha d/o Susan and Rebecca and Victoria d/o Ellen, their absolute freedom when they arrive at suitable age and my executor to take them to the District of Columbia or some free state and bind them out to some respectable mistress to learn some respectable trade until they arrive to the age of 16yrs. Also 20 dollars each annually for 5 years from the time of their arrival at 16 yrs, or 100 dollars if they should choose ot emigrate.
To Joseph H. Cooksey, negro William.
Item: whereas I have purchased of a certain Alexander Cox sundry negroes for which I hold a bill of sale as also his land at a sheriff sale, I do hereby direct my executor to sell as much of said property as will pay the amount that Cox owes me and the residue to return to said Cox.

Indenture made March 4, 1814; John Matthews in consideration of $6000 lawful money of United States paid by Joseph Mitchell of Kent County, Maryland has sold part of a tract called Tulip Hill containing 383 acres which was conveyed to John Matthews by Joseph Mitchell and and Maria Mitchell his wife by deed bearing even date with these presents.
