Codicil: friend Benjamin Contee intimidated his wish for me not to accept the bequest of negro Jesse. Therefore I revoke said bequest, and devise negro Jesse to Benjamin Contee for the term of 7 years on condition that he pay the sum of 5 pounds annually toward repairing the glebe houses now belonging to the parish of William and Mary, or toward railing in the church yard, or toward building a portico, or erecting a small room in or adjoining the church to contain a stove, for the purpose of holding the church library and as a dressing room for the minister and to lodge his vestments. Provided the said negro shall live and not abscond from my trustee during the term of 7 years, after then he be free.
Executor: friend Thomas Harris (replaces Benjamin Contee)
Signed March 15, 1803 Simon Stubblefield
