      John Slye's Will. May 10, 1777.
      I, John Slye of CC, make this my will.
      To my wife Eleanor Slye - all that parcel of land belonging to me, called Lapworth, and all of my personal estate, during her natural life.
      To my son Robert Slye - land called Lapworth after the death of his mother, the afd Eleanor Slye.
      To my grandson John Sothoron Slye - 40 acres of land, part of a tract of land called Cleard out, beginning at the 2nd boundary of Cleard out given to my daughter, Mary Wood, lying to the westward of sd tract and running to the sough and east of Cleard out, so as to contain 40 acres.
      To my daughter Mary Wood - a Negro girl named Jane, daughter of a Negro woman called Sall, and after sd Mary's death, I give sd Negro girl and her increase to my grandson, Gerrard Wood, forever.
      To my son Robert Slye - all of the land called Cleard out belonging to me, except the 40 acres herein before given by me to John Sothoron Slye.
      To my son Robert Slye and my daughter Susannah Harris - all of my personal estate, after the death of their mother, my wife, Eleanor Slye, to be by them equally divided, except as afd, the Negro girl Jane, to my daughter Mary
      Wood.

      Charles County MD Will Book 1777-1780; Page 322. John Southern Slye's Guardian's Bond. Apr 13, 1779.
      We, James, son of Sorrow Briscoe, Jno Southern, and Richard Nelson, of CC, planters, give bond to John Southern Slye in the sum of 1000 £, this Apr 13, 1779. Sd James, son of Sorrow Briscoe, was today, at Orphan Court, chosen guardian by sd John Southern Slye. If sd James, son of Sorrow Briscoe, pays and delivers to sd John Southern Slye, when he arrives at age 21 years, all money, tobacco, Negroes, stock, and other articles which shall come to the hands of sd James son of Sorrow Briscoe, by virtue of the guardianship, as sd John Southern Slye's proper share of his father, Thomas Slye's estate, according to the final settlement thereof by sd James, son of Sorrow Briscoe and wife, administrators, as per the records of the Prerogative office, and in all things faithfully performs his duties as guardian, then the above bond to be void.       View of John Slye's Land. Received Jun 2, 1779_ This day, Samuel Turner and Leonard Wood of CC, Freeholders, being nominated and John Parnham, a CC Justice, to value the houses and plantation of John Slye, a minor and orphan of CC, under guardianship to James Briscoe of CC.
      Valuation was done on May 15, 1779, as follows -
      Part of a tract of land called Cleared out, containing 40 acres, without any kind of timber except 5 or 6 scattering oaks and a few cherry and peach trees. The houses and improvements: 1 dwelling house, 28 by 16, wanting a new cover; 1 small, logged kitchen, tolerably good except the cover; 1 tobacco house; 1 corn house; 1 Quarter; 1 hen house, all old and not worth repair; about 100 panels of fence, tolerably good_ The annual value of the above plantation is estimated at 350 lbs of crop tobacco.
