wife Hannah;
son Robert, one-hundred pounds for education;
son John in trust for the use of my granddaughter Sarah Kenyon Thomas, two-negroes;
son-in-law Rice Curtis and Frances, his wife, during their lives 300 acres of land whereon they now live, after their death, to be equally divided among all their children (not named); stock and household furniture to be equally divided among my five younger children (not named); all the rest of my estate to be equally divided among all my children (not named), except that if my daughter Martha should die without issue, her portion to be divided among the other children.
Codicil, Oct 13, 1783, witnesses Edward Herndon and John Mitchell, recites, "whereas since making the within will, my daughter Elizabeth Matilda has been born, she shall be considered and have an equal share in the division of my estate with my five younger children." (pg. 560)
