      BE IT KNOWN unto all men that I NICHOLAS WARE now Resident in the County of Rappa. in Virga, Merchant am firmly hound unto JOHN VASSALL of the ISLAND of BARBADOS Merchant in the full sum of Seaventeen thousand two hundred thirty four pounds of good Merchantable Tobacco and cask due to be paid unto said JOHN VASSELL his heirs or assignes or his lawful!       The Condition of this obligacon is that Whereas NICHOLAS WARE hath bought and received of the above named JOHN VASSALL four good healthful negroes (Vat) two men and two woman and that there remaines due in part for the said Negroes the sum of Eight thousand six hundred and seventeen pounds of good Tobacco and Cask If therefore the above bounden NICHOLAS WARE shall truly pay unto JOHN VASSALL his heirs or assignes the aforesaid sum within the County of Rappa. in Virga. upon the tenth day of October next ensuing date hereof that then this obligacon to be void or else to remain in power

      THIS INDENTURE made the Eighteenth day of February in the year One thousand Six hundred sixty & two Between SAMUELL WELSTEED naturall Son of WILLIAM WELSTEED deced of the one part and JOHN SAFFIN of BOSTON in NEW ENGLAND Merchant of other part Witnesseth that the said SAMUELL WELSTEED with the consent of his Friends of his own voluntary Will hath put himself a prentice with the said JOHN SAFFIN and MARTHA his Wife to be taught & instructed in the art or occupation of a Merchant which he now useth after the best manner he may and them to serve during the full time and terme of Seven years next ensueing date of these presents and during which said term the said SAMUEL WELSTEED doth grant and agree with said JOHN SAFFIN and MARTHA his Wife that he faithfully serve them, the Secretts keep close, their lawful! commands every where he shall do, damage to his sd Master none shall do or suffer to be done but the same shall lett and presently his said Master thereof warne; Taverns or Alehouses he shall not Haunt unles it be about his said Masters business thereto be done Att the dice cards or any othcr unlawful! games he shall not play whereby to waste his said Masters goods or his own Fornication he shall not commit, Matrimony with any woman he shall not contract during the said term from his said Masters service he shall not absent himself either by day or night but as a true and faith full servant might behave himself as well in words as in deeds towards his said Master and Mistress and the said JOHN SAFFIN doth for himself and MARTHA his Wife promise with said SAMUELL WELSTEED he the said JOHN SAFFIN shall and will teach him the said SAMUELL WELSTEED in the art or occupation of a Merchant which he now useth after the best manner he can and also shall and will provide decent and sufdyett Lodging and Washing during the said time In Witness the partyes have interchangeably sett their hands and seals in presence of
